[SEU News Network November 19] From November 8-14, Xing Jihong, Deputy Secretary of the SEU CPC Committee, led a delegation on a visit to the United States. The
delegation attended seminars for biomedical entrepreneurs (alumni) held in Chicago and Boston, visited the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, and met with prominent
alumni.
The SEU delegation,together with a delegation from Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, visited pharmaceutical companies, including GoPath Laboratories in Chicago and Simcere
Pharmaceutical Group’s Boston Innovation Center, and participated in symposiums with Biomedical entrepreneurs (alumni) in Chicago and Boston. Alumni currently working
at well-known pharmaceutical enterprises such as Bayer and Pfizer, as well as leading investment institutions, also joined the discussions. In-depth discussions were held
on scientific research collaboration, talent exchange, and investment in the biomedical field. Some startups, having achieved innovative “0 to 1” breakthroughs from in
cutting-edge areas such as organ-on-a-chip technology and diagnostic antibodies, expressed their desire to establish operations in China to achieve scaled development
from “1 to 100”.
Xing Jihong stated that SEU would fully leverage its role as a platform andconnector, aggregating the advanced technologies and development needs of alumni enterprises.
Meanwhile,the university would collaborate with Nanjing Jiangbei New Area to showcase its established healthcare industry ecosystem and policy advantages,thus providing
alumni with a high-quality platform for returning to China and pursuing development.
During the visit, the delegation held extensive discussions with alumni representatives from three alumni associations on the East Coast and specifically met with major donor
representatives, including Li Jiaqiang, an alumnus from the Class of 1985, and Wei Yuxuan, Deputy Director-General of the American New York Chinese Merchants
Association. Xing Jihong updated alumni on the university’s significant achievements in recent rapid development and its goal to join the ranks of world-class universities. He
emphasized the university’s strategies for achieving remarkable development, including integrating engineering and medicine, deepening internationalization, and recruiting
top-tier talent. Li Jiaqiang was deeply impressed by the university’s development momentum and provided suggestions regarding medical development and evaluation
systems, the application of AI in medical services, and the challenges and opportunities in international cooperation, affirming his willingness to continue supporting his alma
mater fully.
During the visit, the delegation also visited the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago and met with community entrepreneurs from the Chinese Merchants Association in
New York. The Education Counsellor from the Chinese Consulate General in New York attended an event organized by the SEU Greater New York Alumni Association.
The delegation included representatives from departments such as the Alumni Service and Foundation Affairs Office, Zhongda Hospital, and the School of Civil Engineering,
and other university departments.
